Trump celebrates solar eclipse by looking up without special viewing glasses

Staring directly at the sun, without the powerful ultraviolet protection afforded by eclipse glasses, can cause solar retinopathy, a condition that can lead to vision problems or even blindness. According to a White House pool report, one of Trump's aides shouted "Don't look" when Trump came out and pointed at the sky.

The internet lit up instantly, because organizations and scientists have spent the past few days begging people not to view the partial eclipse with the naked eye because it could damage their retinas.

The White House originally said Trump would watch from the second-floor Truman balcony.
