Google, Walmart team up to offer voice-activated shopping

Google Express is Google's way of helping high street retailers offer their products online.

Because Amazon is dominating the nascent voice-shopping market.

Without the quote, Wal-Mart and Google are attacking frontally the giant Amazon. After you do, Google's voice control AI Assistant can let you know what size of detergent or kind of soda you chose last time you ordered whenever you make a new purchase. But now the stakes have been raised, with the entry of Google.

Scott Kessler, a CFRA analyst who covers Google parent Alphabet, said the announcement made sense for both companies, filling in a gap in Walmart's technology profile with the addition of voice-ordering capacity and potentially boosting Google's standing in e-commerce.

Moreover, it is in that Wal-Mart has hired Mr. Lore.

Maersk sells North Sea assets to French energy giant Total
Under the terms of the deal, Maersk would receive 97.5 million Total shares, or about 3.8 percent of the French company. Moller - Maersk A/S (NASDAQ: AMKBY ) from a hold rating to a sell rating in a research note released on Friday morning.

Certainly, in relation to the u.s. distribution, in a whole, Amazon remains far behind Wal-Mart, with respective market shares of 2.8 % and 6.3 % in the previous year, but he settles comfortably in the place of the challenger.

Amazon's AI virtual assistant Alexa already enables users to shop directly from the online retail giant. Walmart said that from the month of September it will offer thousands of items through the Google Assistant platform. It's also the latest example of how online shopping is forcing tech firms and traditional retailers to pool their resources. Walmart last week reported a 2.1% rise in second-quarter sales to $123.4 billion, but net income fell 23.2% to $2.9 billion, in part due to more aggressive spending on e-commerce.

To use the service, customers link their Walmart accounts to Google Express.

According to Walmart, the company views this as primarily an easy way to build a basket of previously purchased everyday essentials. "An open and transparent shopping universe is good for customers", said Lore. He said that Walmart will capitalise on its around 5000 stores in the United States to "create customer experiences that don't now exist within voice shopping anywhere else". Next year, we will also leverage our 4,700 USA stores and our fulfillment network to create customer experiences that don't now exist within voice shopping anywhere else, including choosing to pick up an order in store (often for a discount) or using voice shopping to purchase fresh groceries across the country. But the service has hit several speed bumps, including an unsuccessful move into selling perishables, and turnover by the executives overseeing it. Indeed, purchase experience through Alexa is quite mixed as many people find it hard to use and do not see the point. Amazon's prices are generally comparable to those found in most big-box stores, but its vast inventory is hard for even the largest retailers to beat.
