Burnley heap more misery on Palace; Newcastle see off Swansea City

May JohnsonSep 11, 2017

A Chris Wood goal condemned Frank de Boer's side to yet another Premier League defeat, with toothless Palace failing to score yet in the current Premier League campaign, though they did manage two goals in a League Cup win over Ipswich.

Frank de Boer may have only been in charge of Crystal Palace for three Premier League games, but bookmakers Paddy Power have wasted no time in opening up a next manager market at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles made it four straight defeats to start the Premier League season after a 1-0 reverse away at Burnley this afternoon.

The club are said to have contemplated sacking De Boer during the worldwide break, as the relationship between the manager and Palace chairman Steve Parish is reportedly "at breaking point".

"For me, the glass is always half full", De Boer said.

"What other people think, they have to decide but when I'm still the manager of Palace, I will give 100 percent".

It took just three minutes for Wood - making his first start for Burnley following his summer move from Leeds - to open the scoring, with the goal put on a plate for the New Zealand global.

When Sam Allardyce was around, they were getting pelters for the way they played, but at the end of the day some teams can only play a certain way and this squad clearly may not be able to and he may have to play a certain way.

Crystal Palace began to look nervous as the game reached the last ten minutes.

Palace could have pulled level nearly instantly, but Dann's excellent volley on the turn was cleared off the line by Lowton, with Benteke later sending a header toward goal that left Heaton scrambling - but the ball dropped just wide of the post. "Right now I think we have to go back to the comfort zone of our players and if they feel - and I feel - and everybody's on board with that and it's in a 4-3-3 system then we're going to play 4-3-3".

It puts more pressure on De Boer, who recently met with Palace owner Steve Parish to discuss their bad start.

Parish, who led a consortium that purchased the club in 2010, told fans: "We are four games in, it's a awful start but we have to stick together. But that's football", De Boer said.

During the global break, chairman Steve Parish admitted the start to the new campaign had "not been great", adding "i t's a results-based business, so if you don't get wins".
