Premier League changes Transfer Deadline date

May JohnsonSep 11, 2017

English Premier League has announced changes to the closure of its transfer window, which will shut at 17:00 on the Thursday before the 2018-19 season.

From next summer English clubs won't be able to purchase players after the beginning of the season, so we'll see transfer deadline day moved to August 9.

No other league in Europe has yet followed suit, meaning transfers in and out of Italy, Spain, Germany and France, for example, will still be possible until August 31. Juventus director general Beppe Marotta - also president of the Sporting Directors' Association - has long championed such a move and reacted with delight after the Premier League announcement.

On the other hand, unless the other major European leagues fall into step, this new deadline creates serious vulnerability for Premier League clubs.

The January transfer window remains unaffected by any of these changes.

The decision to close the window before the season doesn't actually shorten the period in which clubs can conduct business, with the window now beginning earlier to ensure clubs still have a 12-week period in line with Federation Internationale de Football Association rules.

Meanwhile, Police have pinned their hopes on the CCTV footage to get some clues about the identity of the killers. Since dusk, candlelight vigils were held in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai , Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram.

'For the regularity of the season, it's better because you can have a player who you could play against three times if the transfer window is not closed when you start the season.

"It was a concern but I wouldn't say it was a real pathological anger about that, it was just one of the concerns that they felt, on balance, meant they couldn't support it".

Wolfsburg sporting director Olaf Rebbe added: "That will be hard because of the different starts of the season". There are a couple of supporters of this decision, but without the agreement from all European leagues it doesn't make sense Everton's coach Ronald Koeman has already said that without reciprocation from other leagues this decision seems "silly".

The fact that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool only five days after playing for Arsenal in a 4-0 defeat at Anfield was raised as an example of the extended window's threat to the integrity of the league.

14 clubs voted in favour of the vote, while the clubs listed above voted against and Burnley abstained from the vote.
