Four college basketball assistants charged in fraud case

April FrancisSep 29, 2017

Evans surrendered to federal marshals early Wednesday on federal corruption charges following an investigation into the criminal influence of money on coaches and players in the NCAA.

Ten people have been charged across the country, and the Justice Department says more charges could be coming.

"We were surprised to learn this morning of potential actions against one of our assistant basketball coaches by federal officials".

During a March 2016 meeting near the campus of SC, where Evans coached before Oklahoma State, Dawkins allegedly explained to Sood how paying assistant coaches guarantees a steady pipeline of players "every year".

Joon Kim, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY, said in a press conference Tuesday that "the coaches affirmatively lied to the players and their families".

Evans, along with USC assistant Tony Bland, Arizona assistant Emmanuel Richardson and Auburn assistant Chuck Person, allegedly accepted bribes from financial advisers, agents and executives. The charges stem from Evans' time at SC as well as OSU. At that meeting they began discussing Player-3 and the access to him that Evans could provide.

Oil Prices Inch Higher After Surprise Crude Draw
One of the other drivers was continued high compliance by OPEC on its pledged production cut, which has averaged 86% for the year. Thomson Reuters , the parent of Reuters news, competes with Platts and Argus in providing news and information to the oil market.

The complaint also alleges Evans believed he had the ability to "bury" other advisors if they tried to recruit or sign his players. He will be staying with us as the associate head coach at Oklahoma State University.

The player was also expected to sign with Adidas upon turning professional, prosecutors said. "None of the coaches asked a single question about his track record in handling players' money".

"For these men, bribing coaches was an investment", Kim said.

So far, there has been no comment from the NCAA.

Lamont Evans, the associate head coach of Oklahoma State's men's basketball team, is in the center of a corruption investigation by the FBI, reportedly accepting more than $22,000 in bribes to steer players toward certain advisers. Evans was hired by Underwood in April 2016 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, working together for about a year before Underwood left for the IL job this spring.

Athletic Director Mike Holder said in a statement Wednesday OSU was working with federal authorities and would "coordinate with the NCAA as we move forward with looking into this matter to the fullest extent".
