Amazon's newest service: delivering packages to your parked vehicle

Kerry GarnerApr 25, 2018

CNET reporter Ben Fox Rubin said, "You include things like the make and model of your vehicle, what color it is, what your license plate is, and then the delivery driver will be able to find your auto wherever it is parked in that radius".

It isn't Amazon's first alternative delivery site.

Once a vehicle has been set up in Amazon's Key app, it transmits its location to Amazon delivery drivers on delivery day so that it can be located. Amazon Key in-car deliveries are launching in 37 USA cities, but only for select vehicles.

The service is available for compatible vehicles from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac with an active OnStar account no older than 2015, as well as customers with a 2015 or newer Volvo vehicle with an active Volvo On Call account, according to Amazon.

To find out if your auto qualifies for the service, enter your vehicle's information on Amazon's website. Amazon says the in-car delivery option will be available for all orders using Same Day, Two-Day or Standard Shipping.

The Amazon Key app uses a camera and smart lock so Prime members can have deliveries put inside their home, or auto. The app also provides notifications with the expected 4-hour delivery time window and notifies customers when the delivery is on its way and the package has been delivered.

"If you allow people to go into your cars, and I know they're also doing their homes, you are really forming a trusted relationship with your end user".

The Egypt star is the first Premier League player to score 40 goals in all competitions since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2007-08. I understand how we're going to react, even myself after successful the Premier League . "Now it's OK.

Once the driver is standing next to the auto, they tap on the app and it opens the locks.

Rafiq, who previously worked at Amazon, said Volvo might take the collaboration beyond the USA and into services beyond package delivery. "And with no additional hardware or devices required, customers can start ordering in-car delivery today".

The online retailer's in-home delivery service launched last November aims to smooth over a major pain point for e-commerce customers, especially those in urban areas without a doorman - how to get packages when they're not at home and how to keep fresh and frozen food cold enough. Amazon'sdelivery people receive one-time access to open the trunk. Packages are placed in the vehicle's trunk or out of plain sight.

The second delivery was on a Saturday, and it was then I could really see the value.

"In-car delivery gives customers that same peace of mind and allows them to take the Amazon experience with them". We only actually do the unlock if its [sic] the right person, right place, right auto, right time.

Amazon says that it will check the location of every delivery driver when an in-car delivery is about to be made to ensure the identity of the driver.
