Universal Studios Japan roller coaster stalls, leaving riders stranded for 2 hours

A technical snag led a group of ride-goers stuck hanging upside-down on the Jurassic Park-inspired Flying Dinosaur roller coaster for more than two hours before they were safely rescued.

The ride promises to deliver an "over-the-top, thrilling experience"-a far cry from the "slowest rollercoaster" that derailed and stopped mid-ride at the Arakawa Amusement Park in Tokyo in March, which passengers hardly noticed".

The amusement park said the two carriages - each with 32 passengers - stalled midway through the 1,100m ride at around 4.45pm.

The same roller coaster ride had run into similar trouble in August and September a year ago.

Some 64 visitors to the Osaka theme park were halted about 100ft above the ground on the ride's upward track, while the other carriage stopped shortly before reaching the launch terminal.

Trump to meet with Southwest crew after fatal engine failure
The engine manufacturer CFM International , a joint-venture between General Electric and Safran has been named as a co-defendant. After that incident, Southwest disagreed with a Federal Aviation Authority proposal about engine inspections, reported Reuters.

A spokesperson for the park told The Japan Times that "the suspension of the roller coaster was the result of the operator's priority on safety".

But some visitors were nonetheless horrified by the incident.

The Osaka park, packed with holiday makers during Japan's "Golden Week" series of holidays, said all of the riders were evacuated safely.

A 24-year-old woman from the city of Kumamoto, who rode on the roller coaster shortly before the incident, was surprised by the news. Its highest point is 37 meters above the ground.
