Iowa passes abortion-ban law

Surrounding herself with small children to create an attractive photo op, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed SF 359 on Friday afternoon, imposing on Iowa the most severe abortion restrictions in the nation.

The Republican governor signed the legislation in her formal office at the state capitol as protesters gathered outside chanting, "My body, my choice!"

Shumaker believes the near-total bans signal a strategic shift on the part of anti-abortion lawmakers, who have for years chipped away at abortion access through targeted regulation of abortion providers or "TRAP" laws.

"I understand and anticipate that this will likely be challenged in court, and that courts may even put a hold on the law until it reaches the Supreme Court", she said. This is about life. It has taken decades for the science to catch up to what many have believed all along: "that she's a baby", Rep. Shannon Lundgren, added, according to Iowa Public Radio.

Just before Reynolds signed the bill, the ACLU and an abortion rights groups in the state threatened to sue if the governor did. Arkansas and North Dakota have both passed similar extreme abortion laws in the past, and both were quickly voided by the courts as unconstitutional.

Abortion has been outlawed in the USA state of Iowa for women about six weeks pregnant.

Armenian parliament set to vote on new premier
Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ara Babloyan said that this is an unprecedented phenomenon. Mr Pashinyan, 42, has said he wants to call snap elections.

The same Republican-majority Legislature in Iowa passed a 20-week abortion ban previous year. President Donald Trump promised to appoint pro-life justices to the courts, but he would have to appoint at least one more Supreme Court judge before the Iowa legislation would have a chance of being upheld. The protests followed the morning rally outside of the Capitol where more than 100 people showed up to oppose the legislation.

Like numerous speakers, de Baca had a message for Reynolds and the Republicans who passed the law: "We will see you in court".

This year, MS passed a law banning abortion after 15 weeks, except in the case of medical emergencies or fetal abnormality but not including rape or incest. "This bill tells Iowa women and girls that forced pregnancy is more important than their health and well-being".

Iowa's four Catholic bishops also are preparing for a court challenge.

"This legislation affirms the scientific fact that human life begins at conception", the American Family Association, a pro-life Christian group in MS, said in a statement. Iowa had already banned abortions after 20 weeks.
