Service Dog Gives Birth to 8 Puppies at Florida Airport Gate

A surprise birth took place at Tampa International Airport Friday as a service dog gave birth to eight puppies at a flight gate.

Fortunately, Tampa Fire & Rescue's Aircraft Rescue Firefighters paramedics were close by to help out with the canine delivery.

Both Eleanor Rigby and Golden Nugget are service dogs to Van Atter, who suffers from mobility and pain issues, an airport spokeswoman told the publication.

The team documented the birth on Twitter, using the hashtag #AirportPuppies.

They missed the flight, and for the next three hours created a fuzzy spectacle as crowds gathered with phones trying to capture the scene. "That's all", said Diane Van Atter, owner of Ellie the service dog.

Finally, they all made their way into the world, one by one, and got cleaned up on a black and green blanket, before they could snuggle up to their mom.

Ellie and her owner were on the way to Philadelphia. but the puppies had other ideas.

James added that they planned to go back to their home in Bradenton, Florida, with the dogs and the puppies and calm their nerves before deciding on a plan to drive to Philadelphia with the puppies.
