Republicans block Democrats’ effort to help EPA investigate Pruitt’s ever-growing scandals

President Donald Trump is standing by his embattled Environmental Protection Agency chief, even as the scandals and federal investigations continue to mount.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt testifies before a Senate Appropriations Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee hearing on the proposed budget estimates and justification for FY2019 for the Environmental Protection Agency on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., May 16, 2018.

The tweet notes some of Pruitt's most egregious scandals, including the fact that he paid $50 a night for a condo - well below market rate - from the wife of a lobbyist who had business before the EPA.

"I feel with nice change comes, I feel you already know, opposition".

Meanwhile, Pruitt is caught up in a string of ethics controversies, Politico noted.

Among the treats listed on the itemized bill for Pruitt and his guests: "Calypso Steak Salad", "Pineapple Glazed Salmon", and something called a "Ragin Cajun", which was ordered at two consecutive visits and three times that month. Hupp's departure came after lawmakers released her testimony to the congressional panel, in which she said Pruitt had directed her to house-hunt and carry out other personal errands for him, including asking the Trump International Hotel about buying a used mattress cheap.

Mr. Pruitt, in a statement on Wednesday, called Millan Hupp a "valued member of the E.P.A. team" and a "colleague, friend and trusted partner".

The resignations were first reported by The New York Times.

Scott Pruitt is still employed by the Trump administration. "The corruption begins with Scott Pruitt, and it must end with his resignation or firing".

Pruitt is undertaking massive deregulations at the EPA, for which Republicans and the Trump administration have credited him and used as a reason for keeping him on board. Whitehouse and Carper also asked Elkins to examine whether the EPA has been holding back entries from Pruitt's work calendar and other documents requested by Congress or by organizations invoking the Freedom of Information Act.

"The hits just keep on coming, and I think he's hurting the president and therefore he's hurting the country", Kennedy added.
