Lopetegui's move to Real angered Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales, who said he was only told about it five minutes before Real confirmed the news publicly.

Perez said Rubiales' reaction was "one of pride" and he "disrespected" Real.

Shortly after the news, it was announced their director of football and former Spain and Real Madrid captain Hierro would take the post for the duration of the tournament. Lopetegui said the day he was sacked as Spain coach was the "saddest" since the death of his mother as he was officially unveiled as Real's new manager. "We are neighbours, but also teams with great quality".

"I am very relaxed, all of us are, we have acted in a fully professional and honest way".

"We reached an agreement very quickly, in a few hours, and wanted to make a show of transparency, to avoid all rumours and speculation during the tournament".

"I don't think it will be a huge disadvantage", Real star Kroos commented at Germany's team base.

The Spanish were sensationally dumped out of the 2014 World Cup at the group stage having started as world champions, so they will have a point to prove in Russian Federation.

"Julen you will get all support and I want to welcome you to your home, of Real Madrid".

The Group B match in Sochi is at Fisht Olympic Stadium, the first World Cup game to be played at the venue.

He described the day he was sacked as "the saddest day of my life since the death of my mother", and the 51-year-old former goalkeeper will surely find it hard to watch Friday's match.

"If it is true what I read that the president of the federation was informed a couple of minutes before the club [Real Madrid] made it official then it is a unusual process. It's not the best situation but at the same time, it unites them more and they give more of themselves, you never know". "We know how important he is, he is a constant danger", admitted Ramos of his Real Madrid colleague.
