Amul Thapar Not On Donald Trump's Shortlist For US Supreme Court

April FrancisJul 09, 2018

Prominent Indian-American judge Amul Thapar has failed to make it to the shortlist, of the three candidates, from which U.S. President Donald Trump would pick his replacement for Justice Anthony Kennedy, a media report said on Saturday.

Reuters reported last week that conservative federal appeals court judges Brett Kavanaugh and Kethledge are the two most serious contenders being considered by Trump for the U.S. Supreme Court, citing a source familiar with the process. Foreseeing inevitable news break-ins to offer coverage and analysis, broadcasters are rejiggering their primetime lineups so as to keep too much fresh summer fare from being preempted.

Trump will announce his nominee for the seat in a characteristic display of political braggadocio on primetime TV on Monday night. "I was a law clerk to [former Justice Harry Blackmun]".

Trump during his campaign in 2016 said he would appoint justices who would overturn the landmark 1973 decision that said women have a constitutional right to an abortion.

"I think we can confirm any of the four names being mentioned", Blunt said on NBC's "Meet the Press".

Leo said, however, that ultimately Trump would succeed at lining up conservative support for anyone he selected.

Leo said: "Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Barrett have a lot of name recognition among supporters of the president, and I think that ultimately when people like them are nominated, you'll see a lot of folks line up". Has the president informed Republican Party leaders who he will nominate?

In a testament to the closeness of James' inner-circle, there is essentially no certainty of what he'll do in free agency. With that being said , here are the top five potential free agent targets for the Los Angeles Lakers this summer.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, may have given a hint to who President Trump's next Supreme Court nominee may be, after repeatedly using a female pronoun in an op-ed on the pick.

The appointment is seen as crucial because Kennedy was often a swing vote who would sometimes side with the court's four conservative justices and at other times with its liberals.

Mr Thapar, 49, a Cincinnati-based federal appeals court judge, was among the first four candidates interviewed by Mr Trump on July 2.

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of CT, who is on the Senate Judiciary Committee that holds hearings on Supreme Court nominees, told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on "This Week" that Trump has "outsourced" his decision to the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation.

"I'll have a decision made in my mind by Sunday". Senate rules now requires only a majority of 51 votes to advance a Supreme Court nomination.

"The vast majority of American people, shown by poll after poll, want Roe v. Wade to be preserved", Blumenthal said.
