Mercedes says Ferrari incidents are either 'deliberate or incompetence'

Cheered on by his loyal home fans, Hamilton clocked a flying lap of 1m 25.892s in Q3 to pip Vettel to first place on the grid. Speaking after the race, Raikkonen admitted he "deserved" the penalty.

"I had to go over the limit to get that time out of the vehicle and I could have easily not pulled that lap together, so I'm thankful that I was able to do it".

Hamilton's charge up the field proved that he is a brilliant driver, but also highlighted the difference between the engines in F1.

"It was a super start, a super race, and yeah, a hammer finish", said Vettel, who had been dealing with a stiff neck for qualifying the day before. If I can recall his words he suggested that the 44 auto was damaged. With 11 laps remaining, the race started once more. The incident involved Vettel and Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas. That released Vettel into a lead he would hold to the end, while Hamilton forced his way inside Bottas at Brooklands a lap later.

'It's been a good Friday, ' said Vettel.

"I went a bit too deep into Turn 16, lost a few tenths there and dropped to fourth".

"I think there is consistency on the penalties", said Mercedes' team principal.

"Interesting tactics I would say from their side but we will do what we can to fight them in the next". Sometimes they want to teach us how to be gentlemen.

Silverstone was also the last round where we will see Pirelli's thinner gauge tyres.

"He saw it as somebody torpedoed me off the race track". Both Mercedes drivers will start Sunday's Grand Prix on the Soft tyre.

Lewis Hamilton may race in Formula One for another five years, his Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has claimed.

"This is the greatest race of the year and the greatest crowd, I am sorry I could not bring it home for you today". With Scuderia Ferrari driver Vettel in front, Mercedes chose to do the opposite of what Vettel did - ultimately choosing to leave him out, giving him track position but on older, slower tyres.

"To word it like James Allison, was it deliberate or incompetence?"

Hamilton rushed back into the mix for a podium spot with the majority of runners picking a one-stop strategy until Marcus Ericsson lost control of his Sauber at Turn 1, and his fierce shunt into the tyre barrier brought out a lap 33 safety auto. "Obviously I had the advantage on the tyres but he had the clean air so in the high-speed stuff I was able to follow, but it was hard the closer I got".

Lewis Hamilton in the post-qualifying press conference at the 2018 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The New Zealander crashed spectacularly in Saturday's final practice. Always at his best when riled, Hamilton scythed his way through the pack with demonic intensity. Although Miami could be added to the roster in 2019, the German Grand Prix is likely to fall off the schedule, meaning there will not be an increase on the number of rounds from this season.
