Israeli airforce targets militants in Syrian-held Golan Heights

April FrancisAug 04, 2018

The U.N. peacekeeping forces first deployed along the frontier in 1974 to separate Syrian and Israeli forces after Israel occupied the Golan Heights in the 1967 War.

"When the Syrian forces with all their supporters are trying to capture the areas close to the borders we can expect more mistakes and more friction with us".

Sergei Rudskoi, a senior Russian Defense Ministry official, said that Russian military police had on Thursday begun patrolling in the Golan Heights and planned to set up eight observation posts in the area. Russian Federation had warned it would be unrealistic to expect Iran to fully withdraw from Syria. The two sides discussed a Russian proposal that would see any forces linked to Iran distanced some 100 kilometers (62 miles) away from the Golan Heights.

Israel's military spokesman, Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, said in a telephone briefing with reporters that he could not immediately comment on the United Nations deployment on the Syrian side of the border.

The terrorists were dressed partially in military uniforms, leading the IDF to believe they are part of the ISIS unit that is fighting a losing battle on the Syrian Golan Heights, Conricus said. An initial assessment by Israel's military identified the gunmen as Islamic State militants, in what would mark a rare attempt by the Islamist militants to infiltrate Israel.

Avenatti has a history of taunting the president with claims to have more information on Trump's alleged indiscretions. The former model, Karen McDougal , says she began a almost yearlong affair with Trump in 2006.

Israel has sought to avoid direct involvement in the Syrian conflict but acknowledges carrying out dozens of air strikes there to stop what it says are deliveries of advanced weaponry to its Lebanese enemy Hezbollah and other Iran-backed forces.

"From our perspective, the situation is returning to how it was before the civil war, meaning there is a real address, someone responsible and central rule", Lieberman told reporters during a tour of air defence units in northern Israel.

"Had they been able to continue, they would have come to the Israeli security fence", Conricus said.

He said Israel will not accept any changes to the 1974 deal or the presence of any Syrian troops or allied militias inside the disengagement zone.

A Jordanian army source said the militants who fled from the border were then chased by the Syrian army conducting operations in the area to drive them out of their last hideouts.
