Saints Acquire Teddy Bridgewater From Jets For 3rd Round Pick

May JohnsonAug 31, 2018

New York Jets rookie Sam Darnold will begin the 2018 season as the team's starting quarterback after the team traded Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints on Wednesday, reports NFL Network's Ian Rappaport. The Jets signed quarterback John Wolford earlier this week who will more than likely play the entire game. They found a buyer in the Saints, who were looking for an upgrade at backup behind Drew Brees.

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be making a return to U.S. Bank Stadium this season.

Teddy Bridgewater is heading to New Orleans. "He's a successful quarterback and we know he will be a great addition to our quarterback room". Even if Bridgewater remained in NY, it hardly would've been a surprise if the Jets still went with Darnold as their starter anyway.

If all goes according to plan, Darnold will take the first snap under center in the Jets' season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sep. 10.

Bridgewater played well in three preseason games, completing 74 percent of his passes (28-for-38) for 316 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. "We look forward to working with him and watching him continue to develop as a player".

Meanwhile, the deal raises questions about Savage's future with the Saints, even though his preseason numbers have been solid. While Bridgewater was healthy enough to be on the Vikings roster previous year, the consistent play of Case Keenum kept the former first round pick on the sidelines.
