Lukaku double relieves pressure on Mourinho

May JohnsonSep 05, 2018

Nemanja Matic has defended Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho from recent criticism by insisting that he "knows what he is doing".

Mauricio Pochettino admitted Tottenham's 2-1 defeat at Watford was a wake-up call and conceded his side must improve if they are to win the Premier League.

Manchester United returned to winning ways with their 2-0 victory over Burnley over the weekend.

A double from Romelu Lukaku before the interval won the game for the Reds despite Marcus Rashford being sent off with 20 minutes to go for clashing with Phil Bardsley.

After the final whistle had gone, Mourinho told BBC Sport in his post-match interview: "Burnley played very well as a team, and there were very good individual performances and we should score many more goals".

He walked right up to the away supporters, heartwarmingly handed his jacket to a young fan and was even seen smiling - yes that's right - in the press conference.

"You know, in the match I am not looking to the sky - unless I am asking something for the guy [God] to give me help". It's good for us also.

Pochettino was critical of his players' failure to hold on to the lead given to them by Abdoulaye Doucoure's 53rd-minute own goal.

Dershowitz: 'Greatest Risk' to Trump Is From NY Prosecutors, Not Mueller Probe
Prosecutors believe there is very little about the Trump Organisation's financial transactions that Weisselberg doesn't know. Cohen mentioned Weisselberg on a secret recording that Cohen made in September 2016 and which was aired on CNN last month.

The Manchester United boss still retains the support of the majority of United fans, many of whom have turned against the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward following the club's disappointing summer in the transfer market.

League victor under the Portuguese at Chelsea, has not seen any difference in Mourinho's persona this season.

He added: "The people will now see a different side of us".

Jose Mourinho joked it would cost Manchester United too much to sack him, as he dismissed concerns his job at the club is in danger. Begins to work on what we labored the previous few weeks.

"Rashford's got massive, massive, decisions to make in the next year, 18 months for me".

The 3-0 defeat to Mauricio Pochettino's men was considered both woeful and wasteful, with United missing a number of opportunities in a commanding first half display that should've wrapped up the game. Everybody wanted to win.

"We knew where they could cause us problems with the long balls; that is why Marouane Fellaini played close to our defence, to stop the long balls".

On Rashford's red, Mourinho said: "I don't know what happened".
