Feinstein refers information on Brett Kavanaugh to federal investigators

Kerry GarnerSep 14, 2018

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker is releasing more "committee confidential" documents about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, even after a conservative judicial group filed a complaint to the Senate Ethics Committee about his earlier disclosures.

Feinstein has not shared details about the letter beyond her statement Thursday, and no other senators on the Judiciary Committee have been permitted to see it, according to reports.

Senator Dianne Feinstein, the committee's top Democrat, said she had received the information about Kavanaugh from an person she declined to identify. "That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further", Sen.

According to The Intercept, there are "different accounts of the contents of the letter.but the one consistent theme was that it describes an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school".

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, left, accompanied by Sen.

The White House also weighed in with a statement on Thursday.

In the responses, Kavanaugh declined to give detailed answers on topic after topic, saying either that the issue might come before him as a justice and he didn't want to give a hint, or that he didn't recall all the matters that crossed his desk when working in the White House as a lawyer and staff secretary during the George W. Bush administration.

President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh, a longtime Washington, D.C., Circuit Court of Appeals judge, to replace retiring Justice Anthony M. Kennedy.

The negative thing is two of them have been in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of a grand slam, close to fight for titles. That's what I try to do tomorrow, with the ice bath, then massage, then came for hit the ball a little bit also.

"Not until the eve of his confirmation has Senator Feinstein or anyone raised the spectre of new "information" about him".

Democratic senators and others working to defeat Kavanaugh's confirmation believe Kavanaugh significantly misled the Judiciary Committee more than a decade ago on his involvement in controversial Bush-era programs and judicial confirmations.

Kavanaugh also sidestepped another chance to make a comment about Trump's rhetoric about the courts. Sen.

"Certainly, the way Feinstein has handled it shows she doesn't think there's much to it", he said.

Kavanaugh's nomination was to receive a vote by the Judiciary Committee Thursday, but under committee rules, any member may ask for a one-week delay on the vote on a nominee.

The letter which Feinstein turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was passed along to her by Calif. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D), and both members of Congress are remaining tight lipped about what it contains.

'What in Judge Kavanaugh's records are Republicans hiding?' Feinstein exclaimed. Most likely to influence the moderate Democrats' vote on Kavanaugh is the possible fate of the Affordable Care Act, particularly as a lawsuit challenging its protections for pre-existing conditions winds its way through the courts.
