'A very scary time for young men in America,' Donald Trump says

The White House insisted it was not "micromanaging" the new one-week review of Kavanaugh's background but some Democratic lawmakers claimed the White House was keeping investigators from interviewing certain witnesses.

Meanwhile, Kavanaugh, who has denied all the allegations, has found a supporter in Trump.

Ludington said he was a varsity basketball and that Kavanaugh enjoyed socializing with athletes.

McConnell is expected to lead the efforts to whip support for Kavanaugh, along with senators who are close to the key swing votes.

Christine Blasey Ford testifies at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Capitol Hill. But he said the statements Kavanaugh is making now do matter. "The Senate will vote on Judge Kavanaugh here, on this floor, this week", McConnell told the chamber.

Schumer said Kavanaugh was "rudely interrupting" senators in a way he'd never seen from a witness.

The president repeatedly said in response to questions about his top court pick that he was waiting to see what would come out of the FBI investigation and did not want to "interrupt" anything. On Friday, Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona broke with his fellow Republicans and said that although he supported moving Kavanaugh's nomination out of the committee, he called for the FBI to investigate credible allegations against Kavanaugh. After huddling with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Friday, Flake told reporters that he has struggled with how to deal with the allegations against Kavanaugh. "The interaction with the members was sharp and partisan, and that concerns me", Flake.

Flake, meanwhile, on Tuesday said senators have to give Kavanaugh some leeway for his combative testimony las week, given the nature of the accusations against him.

"In the climate we've got today it's going to be hard for someone like Jeff Flake to get any kind of momentum", he said.

Pogba watched from the stand as Derby , managed by former England midfielder Frank Lampard , knocked out United . Pogba and Mourinho have also used the press to indirectly, and directly in some cases, attack each other.

He said that the Kavanaugh hearings where more than just a Supreme Court nominee, but rather a huge cultural moment in the United States. Another two messages show communication between Kavanaugh's team and former classmates before The New Yorker story broke, suggesting Kavanaugh knew about Ramirez's allegations in advance.

The White House has given the Federal Bureau of Investigation permission to expand its probe beyond an initial group of witnesses but its full scope remains unclear.

The FBI interviewed a separate accuser over the weekend - Deborah Ramirez, who has said Mr Kavanaugh exposed himself to her when both were students at Yale University in the 1980s.

She declined to say exactly when it ended or what Judge was asked. "The FBI needs to be allowed to pursue all reasonable investigatory steps from the credible allegations in front of the committee", he said.

Julia Swetnick says she went to house parties attended by Mr Kavanaugh in the early 1980s, where she said he and his friends tried to "spike" girls' drinks.

During his remarks, McConnell dowplayed those allegations. He said it was Flake who deserved "whatever kudos or credit there is" because "he's the one who has deeply angered his caucus and caused great consternation to his majority leader".

While many prominent public figures have seized on the latest resurgence of the #MeToo movement to send a message to women and victims of sexual assault that their voices are being heard, Trump has focused on backing up the accused.

Kavanaugh first testified for his confirmation hearing before lawmakers on the committee almost a month ago - September 4.

McConnell said that a "mudslide" has emerged since Ford's allegations first became public. "And the mudslide was cheered on, and capitalized on, at every turn, by the far left that has been so eager to stop this nomination".
