Emergency alert test goes out to mobile phones nationwide

First national test of the wireless emergency alert system.

In a statement, Alaska's GCI said it too would be participating in the emergency alert network as a wireless provider.

FEMA tested an alert system on Wednesday to millions of US phones called the "Presidential Alert", which was meant to be a method of warning the public in cases of national emergencies.

When you receive the notification on your device, you should see "presidential alert, this is a test of the national wireless emergency alert system".

Here's the kicker - the subject of the alert will read: "Presidential Alert". Some people may get the alert a bit later depending on cell phone tower issues. Users cannot opt out of receiving the test message.

Every American is to receive a phone message from Donald Trump testing an emergency alert system to be used in the event of a terror attack.

Today's alert was originally scheduled for last month but was delayed due to Hurricane Florence.

The hashtag #PresidentialAlert became the top USA trending topic on Twitter, where most users complained about the alert system or used the opportunity to crack jokes.

Police reportedly questioned Kavanaugh after bar fight in 1985
Cozzolino declined to give a comment to The New York Times regarding the report, and has not released any statement on the matter. In a follow-up tweet , the Yale Law Schooler lecturer wrote: "Those are fundamental values we try to instill in our students".

Tough to say. Ostensibly, this is just for emergencies, and subject to FEMA's judgment on what merits an unavoidable "Presidential Alert".

So we asked FEMA why some people didn't get the alerts.

"Got it!" In Seattle, the test alert arrived in the middle of the GeekWire Summit. A message will also appear on your screen that says, "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System". The WEA test can, however, be ducked by powering your phone down.

Has an alert like this been sent out before? "FEMA then sends the alerts to the wireless providers, which then push the alerts in turn to mobile phones in the impacted communities".

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), the lead Democrat on the Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, released a statement related to the test on Wednesday.

Hundreds of millions of phones and other electronic devices have been sent the first ever "Presidential Alert" text.

Unlike the Amber and weather alerts, the presidential alert can't be turned off.
