The mother-of-three's appearance was a surprise to royal watchers as she already had joined husband Prince William for an appearance marking World Mental Health Day on Tuesday.

The royal donned a chic lilac Emilia Wickstead dress, which she teamed with a pair of pointed nude stilettos and a matching handbag.

The Duke and Duchess have been longtime supporters of mental health awareness, promoting their organization, Heads Together, to help mental health charities and groups around the country and the world.

HELLO! magazine reports that Kate was shown a pencil drawing by William Henry Fox Talbot, who has been referred to the "father of photography".

Another policy up for discussion is a declaration committing to putting mental health on an equal footing with physical health.

Kate studied art history at the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William.
