Egypt Backs Saudi Arabia Over the Case of Missing Journalist Khashoggi

Oscar PerryOct 17, 2018

Khashoggi, a Saudi national and USA resident who became increasingly critical of powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has not been seen since he walked into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to sort out marriage paperwork on October 2.

The statement was issued as global concern grew over the writer who vanished on a visit to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul over a week ago.

Citing an "official source", the kingdom's press agency said that that it will not succumb to any political or economical pressures and nothing can as such can harm the economical position of the kingdom.

Khashoggi has been a USA resident since he went into self-imposed exile previous year over fear he could be arrested in Saudi Arabia.

"If the price of oil reaching $80 angered President Trump, no one should rule out the price jumping to $100, or $200, or even double that figure", Turki Aldakhil wrote.

"I think we need to continue to evaluate the facts and we'll make that decision - I talked to Secretary Mnuchin about it last night, we'll be taking a look at it through the rest of the week", Pompeo, alongside President Trump, told reporters in the Oval Office on Saturday. SoftBank and Saudi Arabia said in March they would build the world's biggest solar power generation project.

In a joint statement, Britain's foreign minister Jeremy Hunt, his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian and Germany's Heiko Maas said whoever was responsible for the Saudi journalist's disappearance must be held to account.

Farah Khan, Farhan Akhtar react to allegations against Sajid Khan
She faced repeated harassment and Sajid Khan always passed comments like she wasn't sexy enough or didn't have enough "oomph". Sajid, who was the director of the film, too had issued a statement saying he was stepping down as the director of the film .

Reportedly, Jamal Khashoggi has not been seen since entering the consulate on the afternoon of October 2.

With SoftBank's Saudi ties causing jitters, the share sell-off is "more psychological than anything related to worries on its fundamentals", said Makoto Kikuchi, chief executive of Myojo Asset Management. But Mr Khashoggi's disappearance has led several business leaders and media outlets to back out of the upcoming investment conference in Riyadh called the Future Investment Initiative.

Cengiz, a doctoral student at a university in Istanbul, wrote: "If the allegations are true, and Jamal has been murdered by the errand boys of Mohammed bin Salman, he is already a martyr".

The Washington Post reported on Friday that Turkish authorities had shared audio and video recordings with USA intelligence suggesting the journalist had been murdered in the Saudi consulate.

However, he told CBS News on Saturday that the United States was investigating the case which he called "really awful and disgusting" and that "there will be severe punishment".

Cengiz added that she had seen reports President Trump wanted to invite her to the White House.

Saudi Arabia appears to be increasingly cornered.
