Spain not stopping arms sales to Saudi Arabia over Khashoggi killing

April FrancisOct 26, 2018

The unnamed official claimed the Saudi nationals were sent to confront Mr Khashoggi.

Officials in Saudi Arabia have not answered repeated requests for comment from The Associated Press in recent days, including on Monday.

Human rights activists and friends of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi hold his pictures during a protest outside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on Oct 8, 2018.

Last week, a leaked photo apparently taken from surveillance footage showed Mutreb at the consulate, just ahead of Khashoggi's arrival.

Crown Prince Mohammed's brother and the Saudi ambassador to the US, Prince Khaled bin Salman, published a letter on 8 October insisting that reports about Khashoggi's death were "completely false and baseless".

But he continued to defend the nation as an "incredible ally" and allowed for the possibility that Khashoggi's death was not directly ordered by Crown Prince Mohammed. Once close with the Saudi elites, Khashoggi fled the kingdom past year in fear of possible prosecution.

The Turkish officials spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government regulations. The Saudi statement on Saturday did not address what happened to the body.

Five Turkish employees of the consulate also gave testimonies to prosecutors, Turkish media reported.

Huddersfield boss David Wagner celebrates his 47th birthday on Friday but Reds boss Klopp will not be giving him a gift. What it is exactly is not too important. "It's all good, he has no problems with that anymore".

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he will "go into detail" about the Khashoggi case in a speech in parliament on Tuesday.

On Sunday, its foreign minister, Adel al-Jubeir, described his death a "murder" and a "tremendous mistake". "We are determined to find out all the facts and we are determined to punish those who are responsible for this murder", al-Jubeir said in an interview with Fox News.

Video surveillance footage released Monday shows a Saudi operative wearing the clothes of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi after he was killed, in an attempt to cover up the murder. "That is unacceptable to the government".

He said the Saudis did not know how Khashoggi, a Saudi national and USA resident, had been killed or where his body was. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he'll work with Congress on what the U.S. response should be, but he'd prefer not to hurt American companies and jobs by cutting billions of dollars in arms sales to the kingdom. "After such an unthinkable incident, it is necessary to completely revise the relations with Saudi Arabia", Nahles told Bild am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday. As part of an agreement to form a coalition government earlier this year, Merkel and her center-left partners stated that Germany would not approve further arms exports to countries "so long as they are immediately involved in the war in Yemen".

Khashoggi, who had been in exile in the United States over the previous year, visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2. Riyadh has been a key player in that war.

"I did not think it was appropriate to go and speak at this conference but we continue to have important issues with Saudi and that is why I am going there", Mnuchin said.

"If oil prices were to rise too much, that would slow the global economy and set off a global recession". He urged U.S. President Donald Trump, the U.S. Congress and the global community to demand evidence of what happened to Mr. Khashoggi.
