■Voters in some states chose women to serve as governors for the first time.

Jahana Hayes is the first black woman elected to represent CT in Congress. They will join four other female veterans now serving in Congress.

At 28 years old, Ocasio-Cortez will be the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Ocasio-Cortez's Democratic Socialist ideals of Medicare for all and free public college tuition have captured the attention of a younger liberal crowd.

Diversity also won the day Tuesday with a record number of women of color headed to the halls of Congress. White women are increasingly being discounted as "women" in the feminist movement merely because so many of them still vote for Republican candidates. Tlaib also becomes the first Palestinian-American in Congress and Omar the first Somali-American.

Young women made their voices heard, as well, with two-thirds of voters younger than 30 voting for Democrats for Congress, compared with 32 per cent who voted for Republicans, according to exit polls.

The Democrats have flipped the house while the Republicans will continue to hold on to the Senate following the midterm elections in the United States.

Idaho gubernatorial candidate Paulette Jordan also lost her race to become the country's first Native American governor. Missouri's Claire McCaskill and North Dakota's Heidi Heitkamp were both vulnerable as Democrats in deep red states, and a lot of people are pointing to their votes against Brett Kavanaugh as what cost them their elections.

Former Navy pilot Mikie Sherrill flipped New Jersey's 11th away from Republican Jay Webber, giving Democrats control of the district for the first time in 36 years. "He just laughed, but after Congress repealed the prohibition law in 1991, and I was named as one of seven women who would be put through fighter training, he looked me up and said he was amazed I had accomplished my goal.".
