American missionary killed by Andaman Islands tribe

After a missing report was registered, the subsequent enquiry revealed that John had been killed on a "misplaced adventure in the highly restricted area while trying to interact with the un-contacted people who have a history of vigorous rejection towards outsiders".

The island, North Sentinel Island, is inhabited by the Sentinelese, who are protected under Indian law.

Because the island is so remote, even police don't go there.

A Sentilenese community who has been living in the isolated chain of Andaman and Nicobar islands killed an American National who was illegally ferried in that area by the fishermen.

When the US Embassy here was reached for a response, its spokesperson said, "We are aware of reports concerning a US citizen in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands".

The Sentinelese are thought to be the most isolated tribe on the planet. But those who knew the American Christian missionary are calling him a martyr for the Christian faith.

Chau also said in the blog: "I definitely get my inspiration for life from Jesus".

"We are not surprised that John would try to reach out to these isolated people in order to share God's love".

The tribesmen who killed John Allen Chau, an American missionary who wanted to convert a protected Andamanese tribe to Christianity, must be forgiven, the family of the 27-year-old man said in an emotional message.

"We refuse to call him a tourist". To protect their way of life, foreigners and Indians are banned from going within three miles. The Indian government adopted a policy of "isolation with minimal intervention" toward the Sentinelese and several other tribes in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which are in the Bay of Bengal off the eastern coast of India. The contact found a boat and the fishermen, along with a water sports expert, to help with the expedition.

Chau hired a fishing dinghy and, aided by the fishermen, reached the vicinity of the island on November 16, before transferring to a canoe, the official said. "Well, I've been shot by the Sentinelese", he wrote that night, onboard a boat he paid fishermen 25,000 rupees (£275) to let him stay on, moored close to the island. The next day, Chau moved to shore using his kayak which he got towed with the fishing boat. He came back later that day with arrow injuries. "The fishermen saw the tribals tying a rope around his neck and dragging his body", the source said. Police are in possession of 13 pages of notes Chau had scribbled and handed over to the fishermen before he rowed to the island.

The police also said that it has attempted an aerial survey twice to recover John's body.

Pathak said police can't confirm Chau's cause of death until his body is recovered.

The latter book "inspired my brother and I to paint our faces with wild blackberry juice and tramp through our backyard with bows and spears we created from sticks", Chau said. During graduation, Chau was an active participant in the university's mission and outreach programmes. "You guys might think I'm insane in all this but I think it's worthwhile to declare Jesus to these people".

"He loved God, life and helping those in need, and he had nothing but love for the Sentinelese people".

"The Indian government has adopted an "'eyes-on and hands-off' policy to ensure that no poachers enter (North Sentinel Island)", according to India's Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

In the Outward Collective article, Chau spoke of his earlier adventures, including hiking Table Mountain in Washington state on Christmas break while in college.

He said in the release that despite knowing fully well about the illegality of the action and the hostile attitude of the Sentinelese tribesmen to the outsiders, these people collaborated with Chau for this visit to North Sentinel Island without any permission from the authorities. They concluded that it had to be Chau.

When Chau returned from this scouting trip, Ramsey recalled Chau talked about his plans to return to the remote region, bearing gifts for the Sentinelese people.
