Trump on climate change report: 'I don't believe it'

Kerry GarnerNov 27, 2018

"Right now, we're at the cleanest we've ever been".

Former Vice President Al Gore accused the Trump administration of trying to "bury' a damning government report that linked global warming to the worsening of natural disasters by quietly releasing the study on the Friday after Thanksgiving".

In a statement, a White House spokeswoman said the newly released installment - the fourth in a series of reports mandated by Congress - began under the Obama administration and that future efforts would rely on more accurate models and show that alarm is overblown.

It is titled "Fourth National Climate Assessment Volume II" and written by 13 US government agencies. "Even as local leaders are responding in the wake of fires and storms, national leaders must summon the will to respond urgently to the dire warnings of this report with bold solutions".

It warns that the cost of climate change could reach hundreds of billions of dollars each year by the end of the century. Trump has repeatedly touted "clean coal" as the backbone of a self-sustainable and reliable United States electric grid.

Its findings stand at odds with President Donald Trump's publicly expressed doubts about climate change, and the administration's pro-fossil fuels policies.

The paper claims that the growing use of fossil fuels is posed to negatively affect public health, contaminate water, disrupt infrastructure and erode the existing coastlines.

The undamaged Nikopol also is under Russian control, Ukraine said. Moscow has blocked passage through the Kerch Strait . Tensions have been long brewing over the Azov Sea.

Regional economies and industries that depend on natural resources and a favorable climate, including agriculture, tourism and fisheries, will suffer, the report finds.

The authors of the paper emphasized their belief that ongoing climate change is happening due to human activity, unequivocally suggesting that mankind is gradually destroying the planet.

Shortly after the report's release, the White House dismissed the paper as inaccurate. We ask that any comments by climate-change denialists be flagged for moderation. "Over climate timescales of multiple decades, however, global temperature continues to steadily increase".

Report co-author Katharine Hayhoe says it shows the risky weather that scientists said will happen in the United States is already happening. Instead, the Trump administration dropped the report on the afternoon of Black Friday, a period when politicians infamously dump news that they don't want to garner attention.

"I don't believe it", the president said of the report as he spoke to reporters outside the White House before boarding the Marine One helicopter en route to political rallies in MS in the evening. "That being said, all hope is not lost, but we must act now".

While Breitbart didn't point it out, AOC, pretty much the new gold standard for Democratic calls for strong climate action, actually made a fundamental error in her tweet. The very first line of the report's text says that "The impacts of climate change are already being felt in communities across the country".
