Ole Gunnar Solskjær says he would like Manchester United job permanently

May JohnsonDec 24, 2018

Solskjaer's first game in charge following the sacking of Jose Mourinho coincidentally comes at Cardiff City, the Welsh club where the Norwegian managed, albeit shortly and unsuccessfully.

Mourinho's final few months in charge were dominated by media reports of his falling out with the club's 90 million pounds (US$114 million) France midfielder Paul Pogba while his side laboured on the pitch playing boring defensive football.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should get the Manchester United manager's job on a permanent basis if he can push them into the Premier League's top four by the end of the season, according to former Old Trafford striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Although it is assumed United's decision to hire an interim manager is due to their ideal target - reportedly Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham - still having a job, Warnock thinks Solskjaer has a chance.

United great Gary Neville was particularly angered, telling Sky Sports that Pogba was "dancing on the grave" of Mourinho and tweeting that the France midfielder should "do one".

Solskjaer's appointment on Wednesday followed the sacking of Jose Mourinho over the team's worst start of the season in almost 30 years.

It was a telling phrase given that sources have told ESPN FC that "90 percent" of the dressing room had lost faith in Mourinho before his dismissal.

He also promised fans that he would "give everything" to "bring the club success" and get players "enjoying football".

"It's about getting every player to their best", Solskjaer said.

"You can't really win and you have to leave I'm afraid".

"The last game he had as a manager [ended] 5-5, that was nearly the flawless end for him as a manager and I want the players to be similar".

Solskjaer, who says he has already spoken with Ferguson about his appointment, believes his old boss was the ideal mentor for his coaching career.

Solskjaer while addressing journalists today ahead of his debut match against Cardiff tomorrow then revealed that he would like to see the players play with more freedom and expression when they take to the field of play tomorrow.

"When you're at Manchester United there are a set of demands and one is to be a team player and I don't think anyone has been on the bench more than me".
