Klopp hoping to maintain Liverpool progression in 2019

Benitez, who won the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool, has endured a hard season with Newcastle, who are 15th in the league and five points clear of the bottom three.

Klopp expressed his faith in a squad that has delivered top spot in the league so far as well as progression to the Champions League knockout phase.

"I'm very happy with what I have got and what I have but we don't know", Klopp said at a press conference via LFC TV.

"Against Southampton [in November] they had three more shots than Palace had on target and we won 6-1", he added. "Don't think because we have that amount of points and they have that amounts of points [we will win]. If nothing happens, then I would say we will not do anything".

But the boss' immediate concern is Liverpool's Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle United, not the bigger picture of the table.

Der Spiegel Admits Top Reporter Faked Stories for Years
Der Spiegel , which apologized to anyone who was inaccurately portrayed in their writer's stories, announced that a committee would investigate the fraud.

Benitez, who has also previously coached Real Madrid, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Valencia and Napoli, said Newcastle are finding it tough to keep up with their rivals because of a lack of investment in players.

They have opened up a five-point gap to Chelsea and Arsenal and having overcome the challenge at Everton, where the hosts had previously lost only twice in the league since the turn of the year, Pochettino is confident they can carry that into Boxing Day.

"I don't know him that well but he looks like someone who works incredibly hard, is very committed to his club, and does all the right things". That makes him a special person.

Nevertheless, Guardiola feels his side look stronger as they aim to achieve what no City team has done and win back-to-back Premier League crowns. But Rafa is too experienced to carry that through a full season. Everything is good at the moment, but still, [people say] "Klopp didn't win anything". "It is always hard to play against them".

Pep Guardiola has called for his Manchester City players to remain calm as they head to Leicester following their shock defeat to Crystal Palace. All these games are very hard, they are really hard and only because we won a few of them, that doesn't mean it was easy. Of course not. Nothing has happened so far; we don't have to think about May. That's what we have to do against Newcastle again. If I saw someone in a pre-match interview asking a player about May and stuff like that, I would take the mic and throw it somewhere.
