USA says airstrike targeted militant tied to USS Cole bombing

A USA airstrike in western Yemen may have killed one of the men suspected of coordinating a terror bombing on the USS Cole in 2000 that killed 17 US sailors, Defense officials said Friday.

The spokesman, Navy Capt. William Urban at U.S. Central Command headquarters, said Friday that the January 1 airstrike targeted Jamal al-Badawi (all-bah-DAWY).

On October 12, 2000, suicide bombers in a small boat filled with explosives attacked the ship, killing 17 U.S. sailors and wounding another 39 people.

"U.S. forces are still assessing the results of the strike following a deliberate process to confirm his death", the spokesman for U.S. Central Command, Navy Capt. William Urban, said.

Jamel Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Badawi, who has been on the FBI's list of most wanted terrorists, was killed in the strike, USA officials confirmed to CNN and Voice of America.

Solskjaer insists he can make Man Utd whiz Rashford a better finisher
Solskjaer said: "They've created some great chances today and some fantastic attacking football at times and it's pleasing". Only the post then denied Pogba a first ever hat-trick when his low strike from the edge of the box came off the woodwork.

Al-Badawi was later convicted of plotting, preparing and helping carry out the attack on the USS Cole.

Seventeen American sailors were killed as well as the two perpetrators of the attack that was claimed by Al-Qaeda, in an early success for the terror group and its founder Osama Bin Laden. Al-badawi was indicted for the attack in 2003 but escaped twice from a prison in Yemen.

Jamel Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Badawi, an al-Qaeda operative on the FBI's most wanted list, was killed during a strike in Yemen's Ma'rib Governorate, a United States official told CNN.

The FBI had placed Mr Badawi on its most wanted list, offering a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture. He was recaptured in March 2004, but again escaped in February 2006.
