May warns of 'uncharted territory' if MPs reject her deal — BREXIT

Led by former Labour minister Yvette Cooper, the group has tabled two amendments to the Finance Bill that would paralyse the government unless May wins her vote, the Times reported.

"And the third, and we're still working on this, is further assurances from the European Union to address the issues that have been raised".

Wall Street Journal editor-at-large Gerry Baker says British PM Theresa May survived her party's no-confidence vote because there is no time to elect a new leader before the January 21 deadline for the Brexit deal to be finalized.

The tests began Monday morning and are meant to gauge how severe the disruption would be if Britain leaves the European Union on March 29 without an agreed upon withdrawal deal.

Lawmakers are due to vote on whether to accept May's exit deal in the week beginning January 14.

Letters to hauliers from the transport ministry said the test was aimed at ensuring "there is an effective plan in place should there be any disruption once the United Kingdom has left the EU".

Johnson said, "we must hope that Theresa May does remove the backstop from the withdrawal agreement, in such a way as to give real legal protection to the UK".

Following the cancelled vote, May survived a leadership challenge triggered by disgruntled Eurosceptics in her party and has been back to Brussels to try and get additional reassurances about the so-called Irish backstop which was a major sticking point in opposition to the deal. "The closer we get to 29 March without a deal, the more assets will be transferred and headcount hired locally or relocated".

Meanwhile, chances of May getting any Labor votes for the deal don't look good.

Ali said: "Inevitably, the contingency plans are for day one only, and in the event of no deal will represent the tip of the iceberg as longer-term plans will be more strategic and extensive than those publicly announced to date".

The UK's central bank has warned that Britain's gross domestic product could shrink by up to eight percent in such a scenario.

The Government's no-deal Brexit lorry test was branded a pointless farce by critics after fewer than 100 lorries turned up - but officials insisted it was worthwhile.

But Mrs May told BBC1's Andrew Marr show yesterday: 'If the deal is not voted on, this vote that is coming up, then actually we are going to be in uncharted territory.

She also alleged her deal was the only one that respects the UK's 2016 referendum result, in which 52 percent of Britons voted to leave the EU.

The survey, which was carried out by the polling firm YouGov found that if a second referendum were held immediately, 46% of people would vote to remain a member of the European Union, while 39% would vote to leave. Without taking those voters into account, the poll would split 54-46 in favor of remaining.

May slammed MPs asking for a second referendum.

"It's very hard to achieve - there isn't a majority in parliament for it ..." "The danger there is that we end up with no Brexit at all", May added, also dismissing calls from Brexit opponents to hold a second referendum.
