Back-to-back snow storms are expected to move through the tri-state area within the next few days, bringing a chance of plowable snow in many areas.

An inch or two of snow is likely to the west of Interstate 95, with an inch or less along the corridor and to the east.

The National Weather Service says there is "increasing confidence for a high impact winter storm" to hit the region this weekend.

Snow accumulations of up to 1 inch are possible, as well as ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of MA, excluding the Cape and the Islands, from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in place Thursday night beginning at 6 p.m. and will remain active until 4 a.m. Friday.

The snow will become heavy at times north and west of the city and begin mixing with rain over Long Island and coastal New Jersey. In Baltimore. we won't see the precipitation move in until Thursday evening.

Winter Storm Watches have been issued for most of the Hudson Valley with 7 to 14 inches of snow and ice predicted.

But there is likely to be a tight gradient between areas that see heavy snow and areas that see more rain and mixed precipitation, where temperatures could climb into the 50s.

Showers will wind down Friday afternoon with cold and breezy conditions lingering.

Behind the departing system Sunday, the weather service warns that much colder air will be ushered in southward across the region.
