Prince Philip is uninjured after vehicle accident near Sandringham

Philip, 97, was driving a Land Rover Freelander, which flipped on to the driver's side after it was hit by another vehicle when he pulled out of a driveway near the Queen's Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the Duke of Edinburgh had been involved in an accident on Thursday afternoon near the estate in Norfolk, and police were called to the scene.

The AA said vehicle crashes involving older drivers can sometimes lead to calls for tighter rules or even bans.

The BBC reported that Prince Philip's vehicle turned on its side after pulling out of a Sandringham driveway onto a main road and colliding with the Kia. Eyewitnesses told the BBC the auto the duke was driving was overturned.

While the duke was uninjured, he was left "shocked and shaken" by the accident.

A witness told The Sun that he helped to free the royal from the crash scene and claims the Duke told rescuers: "My legs!"

Although not everyone has worded it quite as strongly as Burke, Philip's crash has sparked a debate about elderly people driving - with some people suggesting that once motorists hit a certain age, they should give up driving or have to carry out a re-test.

Roy Warne, 75, who founded, and for many years headed, Stour Chambers in Canterbury, says he looked down to see Prince Philip's blood on his hands after running to his rescue. Norfolk County Council will discuss reducing the speed limit on the road from 60 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour and installing safety cameras.

Donald Trump threatens emergency powers to pay for wall
But even some Republican lawmakers uneasy about the idea of pulling money from Army Corps projects saw few alternate options. Sean Patrick Maloney says that most Republicans are opposed to Trump funding the wall through executive order.

Norfolk Police said, in accordance with policy in collisions, it breathalyzed both drivers.

Prince William reportedly told wellwishers Prince Philip was "very well" despite his absence.

What did the police do after the duke's accident? The duke saw a doctor as a precaution.

Warne found Philip trapped in the auto, but persuaded him to move one leg at a time to get out.

"We can confirm both drivers were breath tested and provided negative readings".

The duke has been seen in public less frequently since retiring from royal duties in the summer of 2017, and underwent hip surgery a year ago.

Philip may have plans to continue driving as the Queen's transport manager, Alex Garty, was seen at Sandringham as a new Freelander was delivered to the royal residence.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: 'The prime minister has sent a private message wishing him well'. The 9-month-old baby was uninjured in the incident, local police in Norfolk said Friday.
