Pacers star suffers 'serious' knee injury that could end season

The Indiana Pacers made official on Thursday what many feared Wednesday night: All-Star guard Victor Oladipo will require season-ending surgery after suffering a non-contact right knee injury.

Oladipo crumpled to the floor during Wednesday night's home game against the Raptors after falling in an attempt to disrupt a pass to Toronto's Pascal Siakam.

Asked after Wednesday's game if he thought Oladipo's injury was "serious", Pacers Coach Nate McMillan replied, "I think so".

"I didn't see what happened", Siakam said. When he did leave the court, Oladipo received a standing ovation and responded by waving to the crowd.

The news is especially devastating for Oladipo, who transformed his working regimen in the summer of 2017 to emerge as the NBA's Most Improved Player and a Third Team All-NBA performer last season.

A statement from the Pacers on Thursday said scans had revealed he suffered a ruptured quadriceps tendon in his right knee.

He added: "We can argue about it all day, but they had an opportunity to win the game and we won it". Haydel says she'll be joining the boycott and not watching the big game on Super Bowl Sunday.

They talked about "next man up" and "playing for Victor" and finishing the job Oladipo began when he arrived in Indianapolis along with Domantas Sabonis two summers ago. "We've got to lift him now and support him".

The Pacers went on to win the game, 110-106, to move to 32-15 on the season with a big win over the Eastern Conference leaders. In 35 games, he averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.7 steals. Oladipo gave the thumbs up to fans as he was taken to the locker room. "He's our brother and we'll do what brothers do, lift him up".

They could still make a move before the February 7 trade deadline.

"We've got to come together and play inspired basketball", said Myles Turner, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Information from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and The Associated Press was used in this report. "But we can't just go be sad".
