A Fashion Icon Is Dead

In announcing Lagerfeld's death, Chanel said Virginie Viard, his second-in-command for three decades, will take over creative work for the collections "so that the legacy of Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld can live on".

A craftsman who combined artistic instinct, business acumen and commensurate ego, Lagerfeld was known for his strikingly visual fashion show displays.

"When people talk about the good old days, I say to people, 'It's not the days that are old, it's you that's old.' I hate the good old days".

While other designers came to be associated with a particular look, Lagerfeld's greatest invention was "Karl".

Sources close to the fashion label revealed the sad news of Lagerfeld's demise, reports Guardian UK.

The German directed two giants of the fashion industry - LVMH-owned luxury label Fendi since 1977, and Paris' family-owned powerhouse Chanel since 1983, where the stylist left an ever-lasting mark.

Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died aged 85.

Scott, who performed in the Super Bowl halftime show last week, also raved about his daughter on social media. Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott were quite literally wrapped up in love at the Grammys 2019.

The brand's CEO, Alain Wertheimer, praised Lagerfeld for an "exceptional intuition" that was ahead of his time and contributed to Chanel's global success.

Following the backlash, Ms Newark added: "Grief, with which we are all familiar, is real, so PETA's condolences to anyone who has loved and lost someone are genuine, regardless of the deceased's position on fur".

His illustrious fashion career began in the early 1950s, when he started working as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. For the Chanel AW14 show in Paris it became a high-end supermarket.

On Jan. 22, Chanel hosted guests in a mocked-up Mediterranean garden for its haute-couture show. The brand, the legend now goes, risked becoming the preserve of monied grannies before he arrived, slashing hemlines and adding glitz to the prim tweed suits of what is now one of the world's most valuable couture houses.

Both fans and celebrities alike have been taking to their social media to leave tributes to the designer. "We were always learning from you".

A statement said at the time: "Mr Lagerfeld, artistic director of Chanel, who was feeling exhausted, asked Virginie Viard, director of the creative studio of the house, to represent him".

Model Gigi Hadid who worked with the designer often took to her Instagram stories to express her sadness.
