Jussie Smollett apologizes to 'Empire' cast, crew

"The events of the past few weeks have been incredibly emotional for all of us", the statement from the show's producers said.

"Trump responded on Thursday after Smollett was charged, tweeting: "(W) hat about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and unsafe comments!?"

Judge John F. Lyke Jr. set Smollett's bond at $100,000; he was released after posting $10,000 bond.

"Empire" executive producers announced that Jussie Smollett's character, Jamal, will be removed from the final two episodes of the season "to avoid further disruption on set", according to a Friday statement 20th Century Fox Television sent to TheBlaze.

According to Johnson, the American-born brothers left for Nigeria shortly after the staged attack and were detained February 13 upon arriving back in Chicago. However, police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Thursday that much of the evidence that made it possible to charge Smollett came from interviewing the brothers. For the most part, main stream media covered this story properly, using the most valuable word 'alleged' to describe Smollett's report to the Chicago police.

"The presumption of innocence, a bedrock in the search for justice, was trampled upon at the expense of Mr. Smollett and notably, on the eve of a Mayoral election", the statement continues.

Smollett had told police that on January 29 he was attacked by two people who yelled racist and homophobic slurs at him, tied a rope around his neck, and poured an unknown substance on him.

Kamala Harris Says Marijuana 'Brings People Joy'
There's apparently a meme out there that states that Kamala Harris as a prosecutor "set a state record" for prosecuting black men. And look I joke about it, half joking - half my family's from Jamaica, are you kidding me", Harris replies, laughing.

February 11: Police said the "limited and redacted" phone records they received from Smollett had proved insufficient for a criminal investigation.

Once considered by Chicago police to be the victim of a racist and homophobic hate crime, Smollett now faces a felony charge for allegedly filing a false police report about the incident.

Smollett's attorneys say they plan to mount an "aggressive defense" against his disorderly conduct charge.

"Mr. Smollett is a young man of impeccable character and integrity, who fiercely and solemnly maintains his innocence and feels betrayed by a system that apparently wants to skip due process and proceed directly to sentencing", the statement added.

A fake story by a mediocre actor is not the same as fake news by the media.

A source close to the Empire production team told ET earlier Thursday that a meeting with Fox was expected to happen on Thursday to discuss Smollet's future with the show. The show's network Fox said Thursday it was "evaluating the situation", and that it understood "the seriousness of this matter". His next hearing is scheduled for March 14.
