Real Madrid: Zinedine Zidane has rejected job already, says Ramon Calderon

May JohnsonMar 09, 2019

With Real Madrid captain admitting two weeks ago that he got suspended on goal for the second leg of Los Blancos' UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Ajax Amsterdam, Santiago Solari has discussed the centre-back's absence from the fixture. No members of the coaching staff were at the meeting.

"It is an erratic and whimsical president who has brought us to this situation", he said, further piling the pressure on the club president Florentino Perez.

According to various reports in the Spanish press, Mourinho is on the verge of coming in as interim manager.

The spotlight turned to the Portuguese coach immediately after Madrid's disastrous week came to an end - along with its entire season.

Solari, who many believe could soon lose his job, also called for the squad to show character now.

Ex-Madrid president Roman Calderon is gaining support behind the scenes and it is understood he could force a presidential election.

Real Madrid vs. Barcelona - Football Match Report
Their mediocre season is being attributed to the departure of their talismanic No.7, Cristiano Ronaldo. They scored with their first shot on goal, and then with their second shot on goal.

The 56-year-old spent three years at the Bernabeu from 2010-13, breaking Pep Guardiola and Barcelona's dominance in Spain by winning the Copa Del Rey in 2011 and La Liga in 2012.

Any hopes of his being a Zidane-esque appointment were quickly vanquished however, as Madrid veered from disappointing performance to disappointing performance.

Real Madrid and Ramos's representatives have yet to respond to requests for comment.

The report also indicates that Perez spoke with Solari after the Ajax defeat to demand an explanation for the performance.

Zidane's free-agent status would make him easier to recruit than other candidates to replace Solari, such as Mauricio Pochettino and Max Allegri, while Marca claim former Real manager Jose Mourinho is not being considered.
