'Self-legitimisation': North Koreans vote for new parliament

April FrancisMar 12, 2019

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un vowed to improve the economy and living conditions in his impoverished country, the official [North] Korean Central News Agency reported Saturday. Non-proliferation experts have said satellite images indicate North Korea could be preparing to launch a missile or a space rocket in spite of a freeze in testing that has been in place since 2017.

The government of leader Kim Jong-Un had been pre-selected to exactly one candidate per constituency. 687.

He also says Trump would "be pretty disappointed if Kim Jong Un went ahead and did something like that" after he vowed not to at a summit in Vietnam.

In the wake of recent satellite images showing new activity at the Sohae (Tongchang-ri) launch facility in the northwestern part of North Korea, President Donald Trump's national security adviser said he's "not aware" of any contacts between the US and North Korea since the summit in Hanoi, Vietnam.

"The secretary and the president have been very clear that they remain open to the dialogue".

The speculations about the North's possible preparation to launch a missile or a satellite-carrying rocket have also been reported by the United States media wherein they stated that there has been an increase in the activity at the missile assembly facility in Sanum-dong.

"I think it remains good".

The comments suggest that the US will not back down on its demand that North Korea completely give up its nuclear weapons before Washington starts relaxing sanctions on Pyongyang.

In remarks Monday, a top US envoy said the United States would not lift sanctions on North Korea until it completely dismantles its nuclear and ballistic missiles. However, Trump told reporters that like the Singapore summit, Kim had committed to not conducting nuclear or ballistic missile tests.

"The technology for making sure you put the satellite into the right orbit is the same technology for making sure the missile is on the right course", Lewis said, noting that previous North Korean launches used older technology. However, the source said Pyongyang appeared to want to make clear it retained the capability to resume launches at any moment.

The Yongbyon complex is a critical part of North Korea's nuclear program, but the country is believed to maintain missiles, warheads and enrichment facilities in other areas as well. A satellite launch in April 2012 killed off an Obama administration deal for a freeze in North Korean nuclear and missile testing reached weeks earlier.

With North Korea still under economic sanctions, "the leverage is on our side right now, and not on North Korea's".

Ordinary North Koreans always express total support for the authorities when speaking to foreign media, and Kuk told AFP: "At this election we consolidate the single-minded unity around the Supreme Leader and also demonstrate the advantages of our socialism to the world".
