Hollywood actresses among dozens indicted in $25m U.S. college scam

Both women, along with Lori's fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, have been arrested and charged with bribing coaches and college officials hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their kids into elite schools. Her husband, actor William H. Macy, sat in court as the magistrate ordered her free on $250,000 bail.

Huffman (of "Desperate Housewives" fame) and Loughlin (Aunt Becky from "Full House") were among the 33 parents indicted on Tuesday by the Department of Justice in what was dubbed 'Operation Varsity Blues.' It is the largest college cheating scheme ever prosecuted by the DOJ.

As The Daily Wire previously reported, Huffman and almost 50 other people, including fellow actress Lori Loughlin and many high-profile CEOs, were charged for allegedly bribing officials at various colleges and cheating on entrance exams to get their kids into the schools.

Meanwhile Olivia Munn mocked Loughlin and her YouTube and Instagram influencer daughter who she allegedly paid to get into USC.

"These parents are a catalogue of wealth and privilege", Andrew Lelling, the United States attorney in Boston, said at a news conference on Tuesday.

In the meantime, many other celebs have taken to social media to either criticise and condemn the parents or roast them over the scandal.

Alongside Loughlin, actress Felicity Huffman is also accused of being involved in the scheme.

It's reported that she was secretly recorded discussing the scheme with a co-operating witness.

The charging documents, unsealed in Boston federal court, are more than 200 pages long.

Standing before the judge, Huffman made it clear she understood the charges before her.

The scheme involved parents paying bribes of between $100,000 to $2.5 million to get their children into elite schools.

John Vandemoer, a former Stanford University sailing coach who worked with Singer, also pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy. Huffman and Loughlin were due to appear in federal court in Los Angeles later on Tuesday, prosecutors said.

"In October 2018, Huffman was recorded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation discussing participating in the same scheme for her younger daughter; however, she did not ultimately pursue it", the Times reported. Huffman was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

On Tuesday morning, seven federal agents turned up at Huffman's house with "guns drawn" to arrest her, TMZ reports.

The relatives of one applicant paid $1.2 million to have the applicant falsely described as the co-captain of a well-known California soccer team, although the applicant did not play competitive soccer, prosecutors said.

Court documents allege that Felicity Huffman, 53, paid $15,000 to secure her eldest daughter a place at university.
