Recovered black box from Ethiopian Airlines crashed flight is cockpit voice recorder

Nigeria's leading carrier Air Peace insists it has no plan to cancel its order for 10 737-MAX 800 planes in spite of the uproar against the brand over recent crashes.

The statement shows that United States regulators have no immediate intention of grounding the 737 Max 8 after this weekend's crash that killed 157 people near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The still-unexplained crash followed another involving a Boeing 737 MAX in Indonesia five months ago that killed 189 people.

Boeing did not reference Sunday's Ethiopian Airlines crash in connection to the software upgrade.

In a statement, CASA said that no Australian airlines now have any of the planes in use, but that two worldwide carriers had 737 MAX routes to Australia.

"Safety is a core value at Boeing for as long as we have been building airplanes; and it always will be", CEO Dan Muilenberg said.

The move came after the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Sunday that killed everyone on board, including 18 Canadians, three of them from the Edmonton region. "Today, immediately, the FAA needs to get these planes out of the sky", she said.

Air Canada and rival WestJet Airlines operate a total of 37 Boeing 737 MAX jets.

Oman, Norwegian Air Shuttle and South Korean airline Eastar Jet were among the latest to halt use of the Boeing model.

"Pilots repeatedly voiced safety concerns about the Boeing 737 Max 8 to federal authorities, with one captain calling the flight manual inadequate and nearly criminally insufficient", the newspaper noted. It automatically pushed the nose down, officials said, and pilots could not recover. The 737 Max, which debuted in May 2017, is poised to generate about $30 billion in annual revenue as factory output rises to a 57-jet monthly pace this year, according to Bloomberg Intelligence.

Now, in the meantime, the United States and Canada have agreed to block the troubled jets' flights out of safety concerns.

Jason Scarrotts, a father of two young children, said he was on the phone with Air Canada for 90 minutes before speaking with an agent to rebook their Max 8 flight from Vancouver to Palm Springs, only to be disconnected.

Boeing's 737 MAX is the newest version of a jet that has been a fixture of passenger travel for decades and the cash cow of the world's largest aircraft maker, competing against Airbus SE's A320neo family of single-aisle jetliners.

"Boeing is an incredible company", Trump said.

"Losing a brother and mother in the same day and not having their bodies to bury is very painful", he said in the Kenyan capital Nairobi where the plane had been due.

"We are working to rebook impacted customers as soon as possible", a spokesperson said in a statement.

The senator added that despite the FAA's indications that software updates are likely coming, any such changes should be made before any more flights occur on the aircraft.

"We discussed the departure at length and I reviewed in my mind our automation setup and flight profile but can't think of any reason the aircraft would pitch nose down so aggressively", one pilot said.
