In a tweet, Trump said "Because the economy is so good, General Motors must get their Lordstown, Ohio, plant open, maybe in a different form or with a new owner, FAST!" In a statement at the time, GM cited "changing customer preferences in the U.S." when announcing the layoffs.

"I asked her to sell it or do something quickly", Trump revealed.

"I want jobs to stay in the United States of America and want Lordstown (Ohio), in one of the best economies in our history, opened or sold to a company who will open it up fast!"

"G.M. let our Country down, but other much better vehicle companies are coming into the U.S.in droves", Trump tweeted earlier Sunday. Trump tweeted. "Toyota is investing 13.5 $Billion in US, others likewise. G.M". The Congressman also called on other automakers to move into the plant if GM doesn't bring a new product there. Christchurch killings: Assault weapons to be banned as gun clubs face scrutiny
Meanwhile, New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush said police were confident a lone attacker was responsible for the shootings. Eva Angali and her boyfriend Chase Beardsley dropped off flowers on Monday at growing memorial to the Christchurch victims.

President Trump reacted via Twitter on Saturday, urging the automaker to act quickly and open the facility back up while praising the USA investments made by their competitor, Toyota.

Earlier, the president tweeted that "Democrat" UAW Local 1112 President David Green "ought to get his act together and produce".

Trump is expected to visit OH this week. The facility's closure is leading to the loss of 1,300 jobs, though about 417 of those positions will go to other plants, GM previously said.

For instance, he has publicly called upon Apple to shift most of its manufacturing from China to the US, but the Silicon Valley company continues to make its iPhones and most other products overseas. A UAW spokesman told The Journal that the union is "leaving no stone unturned" to keep the plants open. It had 1,435 hourly workers previous year at the time the company announced plans to close it. Production at the plant ended this month, and GM has said it will cut 8,000 USA salaried and contract jobs.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican, last week expressed doubts GM will reopen its Lordstown plant, but he said the automaker indicated it's in talks with another company about using the site.
