Trump Lays Down Cover Fire Before Release Of Mueller Report

April FrancisMar 24, 2019

He suggested in remarks to reporters Wednesday that Mueller's appointment was inappropriately made by the Justice Department and that Mueller arbitrarily decided "out of the blue" to put together the report as part of his two-year probe into Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election and possible coordination with the Trump campaign. "That's up to the attorney general".

President Trump talks with journalists before departing the White House Wednesday. According to Gingrich, Trump could easily use Mueller's final report as a political talking point if it doesn't contain any major bombshells.

"And now I've got somebody writing a report that never got a vote?"

But Trump is urging the department to release it to the public, saying: "Let it come out, let people see it", adding: "Let's see whether or not it's legit".

The House voted unanimously last week for a non-binding resolution calling for any report in Mueller's investigation to be made public.

But the claim, which Comey made in the New York Times, is at odds with the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's testimony about his actions shortly after being fired by Trump in May 2017.

FILE - Former FBI Director James Comey, with his attorney, David Kelley, right, speaks to reporters after a day of testimony before the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Dec. 7, 2018.

It is unclear whether Trump will ask to see the full report and under what circumstances he or his attorneys might be able to view it, especially because the document is meant to be confidential for Justice Department leadership.

NCAA tournament preview: MI
An emotional scene developed as head coach Tom Izzo and several of the Spartans players were in tears seeing Ahrens in huge pain. Now, the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll has been released and both Michigan State (No. 5) and Michigan (No.8) moved up.

He said for months, everybody will remember, that he had no problem sitting down with Bob Mueller and answering questions.

But the evidence so far shows that a broad range of Trump associates had Russia-related contacts during the 2016 presidential campaign and transition period, and several lied about the communications.

"I also don't care", he says.

Trump's tweeted version was even more graphic: The Democrats' House investigative committees were going "stone cold insane". And you know who I want to see it?

Mueller has been investigating claims that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 United States presidential election for months, as well as allegations of collusion between Trump's campaign team and Moscow. "I'm not rooting for anything at all, except that the special counsel be permitted to finish his work, charge whatever cases warrant charging and report on his work".

As is typical, Trump also misstates the Electoral College vote.

Whatever the preparations, White House officials know that Trump could decide to act on his own - taking to his favorite social medium, Twitter, to hail or attack the conclusions of the investigation.
