House Leader Hoyer Slams Rep. Omar's 'Dual-Loyalty' Remarks at AIPAC Conference

April FrancisMar 27, 2019

She later apologized for what she said.

"We stand with Israel because her cause is our cause, her values are our values, her fight is our fight", said Pence.

What is the AIPAC conference?

Omar's presence has loomed large over this year's American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference.

AIPAC bills itself as "a bipartisan organisation of US citizens committed exclusively to strengthening, protecting and promoting the US-Israel relationship". "You have some very bad people in that group".

In 1995, Bill Clinton became the first sitting United States president to address the AIPAC summit.

The prime minister had planned to deliver his AIPAC address in person, but he was forced to return to Isreal after a horrific missile attack injured several Israelis along the Gaza strip.

That was enough to set off Omar, a Muslim-American who was widely condemned for claiming that "It's all about the Benjamins" for pro-Israel lawmakers. AIPAC has been in the news quite a bit lately, thanks to the false accusations leveled by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

In her speech, Pelosi explicitly called out the BDS movement as "bigoted and unsafe". They say this controversy should be an opportunity to inform the public about damaging stereotypes and caricatures, not about cutting off informed debate over US foreign policy.

"I can not stay silent when the entire Democratic Party is castigated as Jew haters when what we really need is leadership that unites this nation and the world against the rise of anti-Semitism, hatred and white supremacy across the globe", Menendez said. Interestingly, the president declined to attend this year's conference.

The class's top unsigned recruit, Cole Anthony, is down to six schools, but appears to be leaning heavily toward the Tar Heels . Nike was one of the biggest trending topics on February 20th for a reason they probably weren't too happy about.

Democrats' rhetoric at the summit also indirectly addressed the recent comments from freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar, who sparked bipartisan backlash for remarks that pro-Israel advocates are pushing "allegiance to a foreign country".

Netanyahu also took the opportunity to label United States critics of Israel's treatment of Palestinians as "anti-Semitic".

PIPAC Co-President and College junior Jacob Cohen said he took issue with Omar's comments.

Pence also criticized eight Democratic candidates for skipping the AIPAC conference.

WASHINGTON-Vice President Mike Pence denounced Democrats on March 25 for their stance on Israel and anti-Semitism.

The bill, which passed in the US Senate last month with the support of the majority of Democratic lawmakers, is the latest US legislative measure to target the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

I believe that the establishment of the state of Israel was the greatest political accomplishment of the Twentieth Century.

Senate Republicans have put Pelosi in a box over anti-BDS legislation that would allow states and localities to withhold business contracts from anyone who supports BDS. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Kamala Harris of California, Kirsten Gillibrand of NY and Elizabeth Warren of MA.

One federal court found that a Kansas anti-BDS law violated the First Amendment when applied to a public employee; another upheld an Arkansas anti-BDS law, ruling that the law did not implicate free speech rights.
