Ecuadorian minister claims Julian Assange 'smeared poo over embassy walls'

"We will do everything we can to ensure that the prosecutors resume the Swedish preliminary investigation so that Assange can be extradited to Sweden and prosecuted for rape". In 2012, Assange sought asylum at the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012 in a bid to avoid extradition to Sweden, which had issued a warrant for his arrest on sexual harassment and rape charges.

But Swedish prosecutors say they are now re-examining the 47-year-old's case at the request of the lawyer acting for the alleged rape victim.

Two British judges previous year agreed to block the extradition of accused hacker Lauri Love to the USA, on the grounds it would be "oppressive", in a ruling hailed a "landmark judgement".

The United States will nearly certainly ask for him to be extradited to the States but Assange has said that he will fight an extradition order.

Corbyn warned on Friday that Assange should not be extradited "for exposing evidence of atrocities [by the United States military] in Iraq and Afghanistan".

The British MPs also noted that while Ecuador had warned British and United States officials that they would rescind Assange's asylum, Swedish authorities were kept in the dark.

Regardless, Assange will have to serve any prison sentence for skipping bail in 2012 for the sexual assault and rape allegations, which a judge will determine at a later date.

The alleged victim's lawyer said she would do "everything we possibly can" to get the investigation reopened.

According to a criminal indictment that was only unsealed after the WikiLeaks founder's arrest, Assange is charged with conspiring with former army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to gain unauthorised access to a government computer.

Relations with his Ecuadoran hosts gradually soured and new pro-US President Lenin Moreno on Thursday pulled his asylum and permitted British police to remove Assange.

His separate extradition case on charges of computer hacking is set to be next heard by video-link at Westminster Magistrates' Court on May 2.

Sweden's Prosecution Authority said Thursday they were considering reopening the investigation against Assange.

At the time, Assange said he had had entirely consensual sex with two women while on a trip to Stockholm and that the Swedish claims against him were part of a smear campaign.

Legal experts said on Friday that the case could take several years mired in British courts and, if appealed, potentially go all the way to the European Court of Justice.
