3rd Case of Measles Reported In Maryland

Wayne CurryApr 20, 2019

- Maryland Department of Health officials confirmed the fourth measles case in the state Friday.

This is the second-highest level in 25 years, with the number of measles cases expected to rise.

"This person was identified as part of the initial case investigation and was under a public-health voluntary confinement order in the home to prevent further exposures", the press release said.

A sign warns people of measles in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Williamsburg on April 10, 2019 in New York City.

Symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, body aches, watery eyes and white spots in the mouth, typically accompanied by a red, spotty rash that begins on the face and spread over the body.

"Adults should be vaccinated with at least one dose of MMR vaccine, with a second dose recommended for those at higher risk such as worldwide travelers and health care workers". In order to prevent outbreaks, according to the World Health Organization, the global coverage of first-dose vaccination needs to reach 95-percent; sadly, the global coverage has stalled at 85-percent for 'several years, ' and many people remain at risk as a result.

Steph Curry Sets NBA Playoff Record for Most Three-Pointers
From there, Draymond cried wolf in the Oracle Arena parking lot to make Kevin Durant feel wanted, and KD fell for the trap. In Game 2, Looney scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds on a ideal 6-of-6 shooting in 20 minutes for a +1.

Measles is highly contagious, though only for those who haven't been vaccinated, which usually occurs during childhood.

In November, an 18-month-old toddler in Jerusalem died of the disease, the first recorded death from measles in Israel in the past 15 years.

In addition to the patient zero, more unvaccinated individuals from the NY metro area have picked up the disease while traveling to Israel over recent months.

The cases have been reported in 20 states, including Florida. About 90% of non-immune individuals become infected if exposed. "We will make sure you get care, regardless of your ability to pay or whether you have insurance". Most people live in countries where weak health care, poverty, and conflict greatly undermine children's chances of getting vaccines.

Those born after 1980 should double check their vaccine cards to ensure their measles vaccines are up to date, respectively check whether they received the vaccine in the first place.
