Delegates Puzzled As Pak PM Imran Khan Talks About "Japan-Germany Border"

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said here Monday that Iran and Pakistan have agreed to enhance security cooperation and to form a joint force for the security of common borders. During his stay, Khan and Rouhani announced the creation of a joint anti-terrorism force to police the countries border areas.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said a few days back 14 of Pakistan's security personnel were killed by terrorists in Ormara, Balochistan, adding that he knew Iran had also suffered from terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said they discussed issues in the region including cooperation in Afghan process.

Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, is Pakistan's largest and poorest province, rife with ethnic, sectarian and separatist insurgencies.

Pakistan's relations with Iran are marked by close historic and cultural linkages and strong people to people exchanges, Pakistan Foreign Office said.

In their latest attack, Pakistan-based terrorists killed over 40 members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) by ramming an explosive-laden auto into their bus in southeastern Iran in February.

As the U.S. steps up its sanctions against Iran, Rouhani said: "In the current situation the region's countries must decide and plan for their interests independently and directly".

Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif condemned the attack, saying enemies of Pakistan-Iran ties were responsible for it.

Addressing the business forum on Monday, TCCIMA head lamented that the $1-billion annual trade between Iran and Pakistan is not satisfactory at all, while the figure could be risen easily.

Both countries also agreed to establish a barter committee to aid in a planned increase in trade between them, bypassing United States sanctions that punish direct financial transactions with most Iranian entities. Pakistan and Iran also signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the health sector. In March, Rouhani demanded Pakistan act "decisively against anti-Iranian terrorists".

Islamabad blamed the attack on the insurgency group Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) and said militants were operating from Iran, accusing Tehran of "inaction" against terrorists.

Iran has accused regional rival Saudi Arabia of funding armed rebels.

In a statement, Saifullah Nyazee termed the prime minister's visit to Iran significant in mobilising bilateral ties between the two Countries.
