Trump Stonewalls US House Democrats on Multiple Probes

April FrancisApr 28, 2019

President Trump said earlier this week that he would not comply with Congressional attempts to question administration officials. And as with Mueller, it's possible the SDNY thinks Trump committed a crime but just can't or won't say so.

Asked if he feared "Trump's wrath", Mr Hogan said: "It's probably not the most pleasant thing to go through, I'm sure, but, you know, I battled cancer for 18 months so I can probably take it".

A new poll shows a majority of Americans consider the Mueller probe to be even-handed - and just shy of a majority believe the president obstructed justice.

President Trump has disputed the full Mueller report, calling portions "untrue". A Trump-Impeachment would have been approved in the public perception only if Mueller would have represented a conspiracy of the President of Russian Federation.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., said this week that she does not support launching impeachment hearings against President Trump in the wake of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation report - the latest wrinkle in left-wing Democrats' plans to oust the president. But the White House plans to assert executive privilege to prevent McGahn and other current and former administration officials from testifying to Congress, the Washington Post has reported.

After a long wait, the Justice Department released Robert Mueller's report, but not without redacting a significant chunk of the content.

Barr has said he has a legal obligation to keep secret information obtained from grand jury proceedings, and that other redactions were necessary to protect USA intelligence sources and avoid harm to ongoing law enforcement matters.

Mueller report details actions by Trump to obstruct probe
Markey later told WBUR that "the president very much appears to have tried to obstruct justice, and we need to hear from Mr. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said it was time to move on from Democrats' effort to "vilify a political opponent".

While Mr. Mueller declined to rule on the question of guilt or innocence, his report laid out 10 instances in which Mr. Trump possibly obstructed justice, a virtual road map for the House to conduct its inquiries.

-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin blew past Tuesday's House deadline to turn over the president's tax returns, saying he will decide next month.

He then claims that "without consulting Mueller, Attorney General William Barr declared that in the absence of a final judgement by Mueller as to whether or not the president broke the law, he, the attorney general, had taken it upon himself to make that determination in a summary he sent to Congress". "[It's when] reasonable people say, 'This is over, '" said the official, who told TIME the White House likely will not be involved in the decision and is not aware of any ongoing conversations between the White House and DOJ about the topic.

Trump on Monday filed a lawsuit attempting to keep USA lawmakers from obtaining his financial records.

"Not even a SCOTUS filled with Trump appointees would get in the way of the House or Senate", Tribe said in a series of tweets on Wednesday.

The House Oversight Committee had asked to hear from senior White House adviser Stephen Miller on immigration, former security official Carl Kline on security clearances and Justice Department Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Gore on addinga citizenship question to the United States census.

The Democratic chairman of the House of Representatives judiciary panel has issued a subpoena for McGahn to testify and provide documents to the committee. But courts also have made clear they prefer that the White House and Congress resolve their disagreements without judicial intervention, when possible.
