Minnesota Timberwolves: NBA Draft Lottery Preview

May JohnsonMay 15, 2019

The NBA's new lottery system has several teams in serious contention to land the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft.

With the NBA Draft Lottery happening this evening, May 14, the spotlight is becoming more and more bright.

Whatever the chances are or where the pick ends up being, Minnesota will have some options to choose from.

But starting this year, the National Basketball Association changed the odds.

However, with some luck, the Lakers could sneak their way into the top-four, including a 2.0% chance at the No. 1 pick. There's an 18.9% chance of them dropping to No. 11 if one of the four teams behind them cashes in on their odds of jumping into the top four. Hinkie also was able to get a young prospect in Nik Stauskas, along with the rights to swap picks in 2017 and the Kings unprotected pick in 2019. In 2015, Boston sent Jeff Green to Memphis in a multi-team deal, and the biggest prize it received in return was a future first-round choice. The 18-year-old was a viral sensation in his high school days, and became the best player in college basketball in his freshman season. Because of the alterations, more teams can harbor realistic dreams of landing Duke star Zion Williamson with the first choice.

Venezuela: Opposition lawmakers seek refuge in embassies to avoid arrest
Guaido invoked the constitution to assume an interim presidency in January, arguing Maduro's 2018 reelection was illegitimate. Maduro's government has so far avoided arresting Guaido, which would likely provoke a strong backlash.

Once the lottery has concluded, New Orleans' plans for its first round pick will be easier to determine.

Shams Charania of Stadium reported on Tuesday that the Knicks would likely shift their focus toward working out a trade for Anthony Davis if they land the No. 1 overall pick. In that case, the pick would go to the Philadelphia 76ers, and Boston would get Philly's pick at No. 24.

The Knicks are already a rumored destination for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. It will get that pick from the Grizzlies this year as long as it falls outside the top eight.

Either way, the Bulls' next first-round pick will join a team that needs to take the next step into the playoffs, regardless of who he is or isn't.
